October has been busy, busy! This works out great because now I only have 2 months to go until the little one arrives! We jam packed alot of activities into about 2 weeks time. We took our annual trip to the pumpkin patch which the girls always love. Obviously Sadie doesn't remember going last year so it's fun to watch her get so excited. Though it's a small and humble little pumpkin patch I think it's adorable. It's by a little red barn with a mini corn maze and a little train ride. Sadly the train was not working the day we went :( but we still had tons of fun anyway. The girls were very particular about the pumpkins they picked. We had to search for the perfect ones for them to carve.
A few days later we went to an actual corn maze where I'm sure we walked at least 2 miles. The girls also got to ride a red neck version of a train. I thought it was the funniest thing ever and I know all my in-laws in UT will appreciate it since they always tease me about everyone in Idaho riding tractors.
Every year my mom likes to have us all come out to her house to carve pumpkins and eat pizza. The girls didn't love digging the guts out which I thought was funny. They have no problem picking up spiders and other gross things but they weren't feelin' the pumpkin guts. With Paul's artistic talents I think our creations turned out pretty good. Kylie actually came up with her own design and drew it out by hand on a piece of paper so Paul could carve it out perfect. Sadie was so proud of her pumpkin when it was all said and done and couldn't stop carrying it around. Then every time we pulled into our driveway she asked to go see her pumpkin on the front porch. Needless to say she wasn't too happy it got tossed after Halloween.
We also tried a new little cooking craft this year. We made Nutter Butter Ghosts. I don't know how good they were to eat, they didn't look too tantalizing, but they sure turned out way cute and were super easy too!
The last week in October all we did was attend one party after another. We went to the ward party where they put on quite the shindig. They had one of those big inflatable jumper house things (that's the technical term) games, and a cotton candy machine. That was the first night the girls got to wear their costumes so they were way excited. Then there was the school carnival which is always fun. Ky wanted to go thru the spook alley and so of course Sadie did too. I tried to talk Sadie out of it, but whatever Ky does, she has to too. Well, that lasted all of about 2 minutes. She hated it, so Paul brought her back out and Ky and him went back in for more. When they came out, I asked Ky how it was and she looked pretty dang scared. Later Paul told me it was pretty gruesome so hopefully she's not scarred for life. Earlier that same day I had volunteered to put together Ky's class party. Not alot of parents were stepping up, in fact I ended up having 2, so then I recruited Paul to come help. I think the party turned out good, all the kids seemed to have fun. We had 5 different activities. A balloon game which I discovered was probably a little too loud and out of control, a candy corn relay, a ring toss, pass the pumpkin and Halloween Bingo. My mom also came at the beginning of the party dressed up like a witch to pass candy out to the kiddos. Can I just say, I don't know how elementary teachers do it! I was exhausted when it was all over!
The next day was Saturday and based on the busy week we had we decided to keep trick or treating low key. We took the kids to our ward trunk r' treat and then to my Grams to show off their cute costumes. Even then, by the time we got home from all of that it was past the girls' bedtime. My question is when did Halloween turn into a 5 day holiday?
