Call me cheap...

I received a call from a mom that I volunteer with at Kylie's school. She said when she was working with the kids in the class the other day, the kiddos were sending out letters to themselves and when she was helping Ky put the stamp on the letter, she said Ky got very serious and said, "are you sure we can use these stamps? These are not toys or stickers ya know." The mom assured her it was o.k, but Ky proceeded to protest. She finally convinced her she had permission and if you are in fact mailing something, you can use the stamps. Can I just say in my defense, nothing is more irritating than when you need a stamp and then find out they have all been used on a self proclaimed work of art by a kindergartner. Can you tell we've been down this road before? I don't know whether I should be embarrased I got caught being so cheap or proud that she actually listens to me?

Oh the drama!

Since school has started, I try and get as much info about school as I can out of Ky, but most of the time all I hear is "I forget." Luckily her teacher emails the parents once a week to let us know what they are learning. I guess it's so we can have some talking points. I know I sure need them. The kid is like a vault! The few things she has told me is that she likes her teacher but she sort of has some "wierd rules." Wierd rules? She further explains the teacher makes them sit quietly, look at her when she is talking, raise their hands when asking a question...you get the picture. I asked her, "didn't Ms. Karla make you do all those things?" "Nope, she just made us wait till she was done talking then we could talk all we want." O.K. Apparently, Ms. Karla is held up on a pedestal and Mrs. McFadden still has a ways to go to get there. There are some girls in her class that are already causing some trouble. It's actually just one girl in particular and she is one manipulative little rugrat! I knew she would eventually have to deal with situations like this, I just didn't think it would be in Kindergarten. I asked her teacher if this is normal and she said unfortuanately, it is. These are the times I wish I had all boys. I dread the mean girl stage! Ky is a trooper though and is trying her hardest to not get caught up in it all. Speaking of boys she already has a little crush. His name is Miles and he is a cutie. I had to have the talk AGAIN that no boyfriends until she's 16. Paul says 25 so we'll let him deal with that. She actually doesn't like to admit she likes him, but the other day she told me Miles reminds her of Cannon (her preschool crush). Come to think of it, they are both blond haired blue eyed little flirts. I'm beginning to see a pattern here! I introduced myself to Miles' mom at the Halloween Party and she asked me who my daughter was and when I pointed Kylie out to her, she said, "Oh we hear about Kylie alllll the time at our house!" Too funny! Between the cat fights and the crushes can I just lock her in her room now?!

Student Led Conference

Yesterday was our first official parent/teacher conference. Is it wierd that I was excited? The teacher said I was the only parent who has taken pictures. Yup, Paul made fun of me, but I am my mom's child. Anyway, the conference went great. When we arrived the teacher gave me a list of things that Ky was supposed to share with us. She sang the days of the week song, recited her favorite poem (hickory dickory), recited letters and their sounds, showed us the continents on a map, showed us how a grid map works and then we made a leaf mobile. Ky's teacher had nothing but good things to say about her. She said Ky is very bright and because of this she gets a little impatient sometimes waiting for the rest of the class to catch up. She is a very big helper especially in helping others become as smart as her. (my words not hers. lol ) The teacher also said Ky is a "jewel and a joy to have in class." All kidding and prideful remarks aside, Mommy and Daddy are very proud of you Ky! We love you!

In the blink of an eye

I remember the day we brought you home from the hospital. I remember your first smile. I remember you discovering the world for the first time as you learned to crawl. I remember your 1st birthday thinking we have all the time in the world. Now, in the blink of an eye you're off to Kindergarten. No longer will I be the one who shares most of the day with you. I won't be the one to hear your addicting little laugh all day long. I won't be there to watch your eyes light up when you learn something new. Though I'm excited for you, I wish I could stop it all for just a moment. Now I'll remember how your little chin quivered last night when you told me you'd miss me. As hard as it is to watch you go, I will be eagerly waiting in the car EVERY day to see your smiling face and hear all about your adventures.

My baby is growing up!

Today I took Ky to Kindergarten round-up! She was so excited. She even picked out something special to wear! I am excited for her. She will absolutely love school and she is more than ready. We have already started the countdown. I have to say, I am secretly dreading the day she goes. I got a little choked up taking her to the dang roundup today. The teachers took the kids to 6 different stations to assess where they were at and we parents had to sit on the side lines and fill out paperwork. It was killing me to watch her move from station to station and not know what she was doing or talking about. I know I am going to have a hard time letting her go. Preschool has been o.k because it's 2 days a week for 2 hours. But Kindergarten-EVERYDAY! As much as the kid drives me batty I will miss her like no tomorrow. Where oh where does the time go?!!!!
