Social Butterfly

The other day my phone rings. I didn't recognize the number and almost didn't answer. However, when I did there was the cutest little voice on the phone asking for Kylie. I hand Ky the phone and she says, "Who are you?" Then she gets a huuuuuge smile on her face and says "Oh, Hi Natalie!" To sum up the convo she was trying to set up a playdate. After she got off the phone I asked her how her friend from school got my number. She tells me that a couple of days ago she handed out some papers to her friends at school with my number and told them whoever calls her first gets a playdate with her. HA! She then told them not to all call at once because she couldn't possibly have them all over at the same time! She cracks me up! So congratulations Natalie, you just won yourself a playdate.

Tid Bits

As I was getting ready to post my vday picts I noticed I have left out a few things from the past few weeks.

The other day, I walk past Ky's door and I see this sign. I asked her what it meant and she said the only people allowed in my room are me and my husky. That's what the "H" stands for and her husky is a toy she got for Christmas. Does this mean we are going to have trouble when she's a teenager?

We had another Parent/Teacher Conference and again I was so proud of Kylie. Her teacher said she is a joy to have in class and is very bright girl! She did ask me if sometimes when I ask Ky to do something she just gives me a vacant look and then goes back to playing? I said, I get that look alllllll the time! Notice the big bruise on her forehead? That was her first injury at school. She said she tried jumping off the swing and it came back and hit her right in the head. Poor thing. The pict with her and the star glasses is a prize she won for memorizing her address, phone number and birthdate. She was so excited when she remembered all of it!

Popscicles and the Prophet

So we were watching conference over the weekend and when Pres. Monson was speaking Ky was watching intently and then turned to Paul and said, "do they choose the prophet by using popscicle sticks and writing their names on them and then whatever stick is chosen, that's who the prophet is?" She was so serious and genuinely wanted to know that I felt bad giggling, but how cute is that?

Girls Day

The other day I decided that Ky and I needed a little bonding time so we went to get pedicures! The place had the cutest little pedicure station for kids. The chair was a designed like a bear and had a dvd player attached to it! She was so cute and polite and every now and then she would look over at me and give me a big ol' smile that melted my heart!

What a GOOF!

One night while we were eating dinner, Ky decided we needed a little dining entertainment. I don't think Paul and I have laughed that hard in long time. I was crying so hard I had mascara dripping down my face! Of course the harder we laughed the more she put on a show, so I had to grab my camera to catch her antics. I honestly could barely hold the camera still enough to get a picture! Here is some of her show....

Preschool Graduation

Ky's preschool graduation was May 20th. It was a great day but a little bit of a sad day. I'm just having a heck of a time realizing she is going to be in Kindergarten! It can't be possible! Anyways, the day was even better when Paul showed up unexpectedly because I didn't think he could get off work. He couldn't stay for the whole thing but he did see her get her certificate and see the kids perform some songs and things they learned through out the year. When Ky went up to receive her certificate, Miss Karla said Ky's favorite thing about preschool was practicing the alphabet and her favorite field trip was the pumpkin patch. Also each kid got up to tell their favorite letter and Ky chose the letter "H". I really don't know why but I was so proud of her because she spoke louder and clearer than any other kid! Can you tell I am a proud mom?! Ky is excited for summer but I know she is going to miss her teacher alot! Miss Karla is truly the best! I am sooooo grateful Ky had the oppurtunity to attend her school 2 years! I can't think of a better start to her schooling than with this wonderful lady! Truly I think she is the best! She loves these kids unconditionally and is so creative and fun! Words can't describe my gratitude to Miss Karla! Before we left, Ky went to give Miss Karla a hug and Miss Karla got choked up which in turn made me choke up. She made Ky promise that she would come visit. I know she'll see her often because Karla is a really good friend of my mom's and I consider her a good friend of mine. She did share one story with me that I have to post. She said that the kids were making their graduation caps and there were only 4 pink pom-poms left to put on top of their caps. Of course all the girls wanted them, but Ky just politely told Miss Karla that she would take whatever she was given. How cute is that?! I hear things like that and it about shocks the pants off me! I feel like I can't take credit, it must be her preschool teacher's influence! However, what ever the cause is, I am insanely proud of Kylie and want her to know how much I love her! Happy Graduation Kylie Kaye!

May 11-15 2009

May has been an insane month! This week especially was crazy busy. All in one week Ky had a field trip with her preschool class to Reed's Dairy, a Tavaci concert and a dance recital. Can I just say that by the end of the week we were all exhausted! It was a great week though with tons of great memories. I am so proud of Kylie and how grown up she is becoming. It's so fun to watch her do all these things but at the same time I wish she wasn't old enough to do them! It's all moving way too fast!

Reed's Dairy was alot of fun. Ky, Mudge and I all went on her class field trip to check out the animals. Ky has been to Reed's Dairy a few times but never behind the scenes to learn about how the milking is done, when the animals are fed, etc. It all was pretty fascinating I have to say. Mudge absolutely loved hanging out with all the big kids and checking out the animals too! Obviously the best part was enjoying the ice cream after the field trip. They have the best ice cream ever!

Her next big event was her Tavaci concert. I decided this winter to put her in this singing group because she is always singing around the house. She loves pretending to perform and so I thought she would really like this. It turns out she loves it!Her teacher, Miss Terry is a big ball of energy and full of patience and tons of talent. Literally she is the only lady that I have met to come close to having the amount of energy my mom has! This lady is on fire! Anyway, the concert was a huge success and it was so great to watch Ky up there. It was funny because right before she was getting ready to perfom, Mudge yells out for all to hear (and I'm pretty sure everyone heard it because the auditorim echos like crazy) SIIIIISSSY! Then right up on stage Ky looks out and puts her finger to her mouth to shush Mudge and then shakes her head to reprimand her. I wish I would have had that on camera. It was priceless. Mudge just loves Ky so much and so to do anything without her or to be left behind just about kills her. She just got soooo excited when she saw Ky up on the stage for the first time!

Last but not least was her Spring dance recital. This really was the cutest dance ever and Ky is getting better and better at dancing! They danced to the song "Everybody Dance Now." It was adorable to see a bunch of 5 year olds up there workin' it! The only complaints I had were they wore the same costumes as they did in their Winter recital and it didn't really go with the style of dance they did. I know, I am just a picky mom, but I wasn't the only mom who thought it was a little off. At least it saved us money on having to buy a new costume. Another complaint is that the recital was over and yes I did say over 2 and a half hours long! RIDUCULOUS! They had some comment cards to fill out on the way out and I am pretty sure they got everyones opinions on this because the following day the owner of the dance studio sent out an email saying they were going to change that next year. Thank goodness because I don't want to have to sit through that twice a year! However, besides that Ky did fabulous and looked adorable! Thank you to all the family that came and supported our little princess all week! It means the world to us and especially to Ky!

Ky-isms

Seriously, this girl just keeps me laughing. I have had an ongoing list for well over a month now of the funny things this lil' character says and does. You're going to have to read all the way to the end to understand the picts but here are some of her recent ideas, words and phrases. When she is trying to say "regular" she pronounces it "reg-lee-r." Also, with Paul and I's upcoming cruise she keeps talking about "Who-y-e" (Hawaii) and continually calls it a "Voo-cation". I've corrected her a few times, but now have decided it's too cute, so I just let her say it. Now, I don't know if I should admit this because it shows that I might let her watch too much t.v, either that, or she's just extremely observant. I choose to believe the latter. However, this girl is a walking info-mercial. I'm telling you. The other day, my mom got fry sauce on a white pants suit and I was joking around with her saying that it's a good thing we own a dry-cleaners. Ky says,"Oh, grandma, you don't need to worry, you can just use oxyclean it takes out all those tough spots!" But wait, there's more! Then she goes on to say, "and if doesn't get out all those germs then you can use Lysol it kills 99.9% of germs." I kid you not, she even knew the percentage! I guess if she is learning stuff off of t.v, cleaning tips isn't a bad way to go! Then one day, she comes up to me and says, "Mom, I want some bend-a-roos." What the heck are bend-a-roos you ask, well just ask Ky, she can tell you aaaallll about it! It's a good thing too, because the Easter bunny would have been pretty lost without her very detailed explanation.

She is also becoming quite a little entrepeneur. She loves learning about different countries. The clothes, the foods, the animals, the music they listen to. So one day she tells Paul and I that she has an idea for a restaraunt. It will be called the Kings of Lions restaraunt and will have foods from Africa, China and even "food built in Idaho." She is becoming a mini Donald Trump! (except with way better hair) I told her there is a restaraunt in SLC that serves food from all around the world and she is skeptical it's as good as hers will be, but I promised her we would go there so she can start doing some market ananlysis!

Now, I have saved the best for last. Hold on to your seats everyone, you're not going to believe this. Ky has a crush! Yup, that's right. As much as Paul detests it, she has told him, "I love him, so just forget about it Dad." I know, we are totally screwed! This little womanizer is named Cannon and is in Ky's preschool class. According to Ms. Karla, the kid is quite the ladies man. He was in her class from last year, and she talked about him some last year, but he comes up in daily coversations now! She asked me what it means to fall in love. I tried to explain it was something you feel in your heart and she says, "oh, I know, it's when you kiss! That's when you know you're in love!" Stop the bus! Am I really having this conversation with my 5 year old? I am soooooo not ready for this! Anyhow, she told Paul and I that she wants a diary with a lock and key so she can write all about Cannon. Paul is begging her to just write about the days when all she wanted was to marry Daddy. Sorry, those days are long gone! Here are some picts of Ky with Cannon at preschool after the class put on the 3 little pigs play and then one of her with a picture she drew of her and Cannon on a date! (and yes we have already had the you can't date till your 25 talk.)

A Moment with Ky

I got this email from my mom's secretary Debbie. I thought it was so cute, I decided to ask Ky these questions and put them on the blog since the main reason I do this is for journaling/scrapbooking.

1.What is something mom always says to you? "Make your bed."

2.What makes mom happy? "When I clean my room."

3.What makes mom sad?"When I don't follow instructions." So far, so good! This kid really knows me!

4.What does your mom do to make you laugh? "Says funny jokes." I don't know how funny they are, but they do make her laugh!

5.What was your mom like as a child? "Long hair and light skin." Yep-she pretty much nailed that one.

6.How old is your mom? "25" I love this kid!

7. How tall is your mom? "8 feet." Then she held up her hands to show me and I was about as tall as a Barbie doll.

8.What is your mom's favorite thing to watch on t.v? "The movie of me being born from her tummy at the hospital." That and Dancing with the Stars-Ha!

9.What does your mom do when you're not around? "Stay at home and relax"

10.If your mom was famous what would she be? "A star"

11. What is your mom really good at? "Exercising"

12.What is your mom not very good at? "Setting the table because she always makes me do it."

13. What does your mom do for her job? "Goes to the laundry store." That is, runs errands for our business Teton Drycleaners.

14.What is your mom's favorite food?"Tomatoes." They are good, but my favorite food?

15.What makes you proud of your mom? "Taking me to dance."

16.If your mom was in a cartoon, who would she be? "Cinderella because she looks like a princess." Seriously?! Man, to see through the eyes of a child!

17.What do you and your mom do together? "Go on walks and ride my scooter and go to the library."

18.How are you and your mom the same? "She likes to clean and so do I."

19. How are you and your mom different? "I play and she cooks."

20. How do you know your mom loves you? "She gives me hugs and kissies."

21. What does your mom like most about your dad? "He goes to work so he can earn money for our family. Oh, and to go to movies with him." I don't love this the most about him, but of course I am grateful he sacrifices so much for us!

22.Where is your mom's favorite place to go? "Dinner with Grandma." She's dead on about this one, because then I don't have to cook!

Here's how she answered for Paul

1.What is something Dad always says to you? “That he loves me.” Notice the difference between her answer for Paul versus me? Ha!

2.What makes dad happy? "When I get his jacket for him."

3.What makes Dad sad?"When I don't follow instructions, when I whine and when I get hurt."

4.What does your dad do to make you laugh? "Says funny jokes."Again, I don't know how funny they are, but they do make her laugh!

5.What was your dad like as a child? "Short black hair with the same clothes only smaller." Again-she pretty much nailed that one.

6.How old is your dad? "20" What! Younger than me?!

7. How tall is your dad? "30,00 feet."

8.What is your dad's favorite thing to watch on t.v? "Hunting”

9.What does your dad do when you're not around? "Work and sleep"

10.If your dad was famous what would he be? "A Rock star"

11. What is your dad really good at? "Working"

12.What is your dad not very good at? "Doing hair"

13. What does your dad do for his job? "Goes to the laundry store and the bank"

14.What is your dad's favorite food? “Fungi” What?! Come again? “Mushrooms.” So funny!

15.What makes you proud of your dad? "Working."

16.If your dad was in a cartoon, who would he be? "The handsome prince in Cinderella” At least we would still end up together!

17.What do you and your dad do together? "Camp outs"

18.How are you and your dad the same? "we have the same skin" Not really she has more of my skin, poor kid. She will never tan!

19. How are you and your dad different? "our hair"

20. How do you know your dad loves you? "He gives me hugs and kissies."

21. What does your dad like most about your mom? "She will go to movies with him."

22.Where is your dad’s favorite place to go? "Albertsons or Target.” Not really.

52 weeks-week 7

This week has been hard for me to think of things I'm grateful for. I know, that sounds pathetic. However, life has been extremely stressful lately. (And yes, I would like some cheese with my "whine")With Paul starting his new job (which he hates), all of a sudden, everything at the drycleaners, and I do mean everything has started breaking down! So, not only is Paul gone 12 hours a day, but I am managing the drycleaners, trying to negotiate a real estate deal for a client and dealing with 2 crazy kids in the meantime. Alright, that being said, tonight when we were getting ready to read the Book of Mormon with Ky, I couldn't find it. I asked her where it was, and she told me it was in her bed because when she gets scared at night, she likes to read it and say a little prayer. How wonderful to have the innocence and faith of a child. If I incorporated a little more of that in my life, then maybe I wouldn't be so stressed out! So this week, I am grateful for the reminder of innocence and faith and for the example of my little girl.

Ky's week long party!

Seriously. Her birthday festivities started Jan. 24th and commenced today! As previously posted, we had a family party at Leo's last Saturday. Then, on Tuesday, we wanted to take her out for her actual birthday so we went to TGI Fridays. Then today my mom's office wanted to celebrate her birthday along with Susan's (one of my mom's employees)What will her birthday be like when she's 16? I have created a monster, a cute monster, but still a monster! Two funny stories about the birthday girl: Grandma Nigbur called to wish Ky happy birthday and she mentioned that now that Ky is 5 she gets to go to Kindergarten just like her cousin Annie. Ky answers with a sigh, "yes, but Annie and I are worlds apart." Isn't that hilarious! Where does she come up with this stuff?! Then the day she got to wear her new birthday outfit, she got all dressed and says to me, "Mom, I look like a rockstar!" I can't argue with a rockstar! Gotta love this kid!

Ky is 5!

Today is my baby's birthday! How in the world does time fly by so fast?! It honestly feels like yesterday we were celebrating her 1st birthday. I am so proud of the beautiful little lady she is growing into. She has more life and love in her little 5 year old body than anyone I have ever met. I admit, there are times I wish I could push a mute button and just have some peace and quiet, but I wouldn't want her to be any other way. I love, love, love all the personality and the zest for life she has. She says the funniest things, does the funniest things, and you can't help but smile when she's around. This past weekend, we celebrated her big day by having a family party at Leo's. Her cousins from UT came, along with Papa and Grandma and the rest of my family. Here's a story that's proof of how thoughtful and loving my little girl is. At the party when she began to open her presents, she informed all her cousins that they could each take a turn opening a present. She then proceeded to let each of her cousins open a present before her! It wasn't a one time deal either, it continued just like that until all the presents had been open. I was soooo proud of her I could have cried right there in Leo's! She later told Paul and I, it was her best birthday ever! We had a LPS themed party and in case you aren't 5 year old savvy, it stands for the Littlest Pet Shop. Tonight we are taking her out to dinner to celebrate the actual birthday. When we asked her where she wanted to eat, she said McDonalds. Really? I began my quest to talk her out of it by explaining that at other restaurants they sing happy birthday and bring her a special treat. That did the trick! Am I a horrible mom for talking her out of McDonalds? I am justifying it by telling myself that she can go there any day of the week, right? Anyways, she is still trying to decide between Applebees and TGI Fridays. I will post pictures later of all the fun birthday happenings.

This is Ree-dic-lee-us

No, you read it right. This has been the phrase of the month at our house! Because I say it so much, Ky has started to say it, and her pronuciation has not been perfected quite yet. However, I am saying it now because it's 5 am and I can't sleep! The past 3 nights Mudge has not been sleeping good at all. By this, I mean she has been waking up like a newborn. Worse actually. I think she is teething. Anyway, you would think I would be exhausted. Well, I am, but yet, here I am. Wide awake since 4 am. After laying in bed for almost an hour, I decided, this is "ree-dic-lee-us" and got up to eat some cereal and blog. Then, as I am pouring my cereal, Ky comes out of her room! "Is it time to wake up?" Are you kidding me?! This kid has an internal alarm clock that just won't quit! It's like the clock in the crocodile in Peter Pan. Constantly ticking! Seriously! (On a side note: Ky wakes up so early, I bought her a tinker bell alarm clock and set it for 8 a.m and told her she can't come in our room until her alarm goes off. I am already up most mornings and so it's rare if she actually has to use it. However, on the glorious occasion that I do sleep in, the tink alarm does come in handy.) Anyway, the story concludes by me saying, "No, it's not time for you to get up, it's too early to be awake." Ky says, "Then, why are you awake mommy?" To this I reply, "I don't know, but it's ree-dic-lee-us!"

Out of the mouths of babes

I am starting a new thing on my blog because the other day I was talking to a really good friend on the phone and telling her a story about Ky and she told me I need to blog about it. Also, my mom is always telling me to write down these cute and funny lil' things Ky says, so I decided to finally heed her advice. Anyway, whenever you see that title above, you know you're in for a good story about my kiddos. I have 3 really funny stories as of recent. The first begins like this. On any given day, you can walk into my house, or probably even be walking by it, and hear me yelling at Kylie. This is not something I am proud of and I am trying extremely hard to change it. Never the less, the other day, she was not listening to me at all. I finally got so frustarted with her that I said, "Are you deaf?!" I know, not my proudest moment. So, fast forward to a week later. I am picking her up at dance and she is telling me something, and I get distracted from all the other kids coming and going, and all of a sudden she yells, "Mom, are you deaf?!" Now, mind you, we are in a dance studio. Wood floors, bare walls, and everything echoes. Everybody, and I do mean everybody, came to a screeching halt. Seriously, it was so quiet I could hear crickets. I started laughing, not knowing what else to do and I am positive every mother in that room is thinking, "what did she just say?" We get out to the car and I have to explain to Kylie that we don't say that, and I made a mistake the other day by saying that, but that was not nice. I guess I need to watch what I say more...

My other story is actually very sweet. I have been going to this fitness bootcamp class at our local gym. Let me just say, as much as I need this class, I loathe this class. I have never been this sore and I have to go 3 times a week. Anyways, one morning,I am complaining and whining and complaining some more about having to go to this class. I say out loud, mainly to myself,"maybe we just won't go to the gym today, I really don't feel like it." Ky quickly pipes up, "But Mommy, if you don't go, you won't be treating your body like a temple." If that's not motivation, I don't know what is. Needless to say, we went to the gym that day.

Last but not least, I am actually already starting to laugh by just typing this. I went to visit a friend today who just had a new baby. My friend's little niece was there too and Ky has been friends with her ever since she was a baby. Anyhow, these 2 little girls play so good together and just get along fantastically. So, we are all sitting there visiting, and Ky and her friend Mia are outside. All of a sudden, Mia's mom says, "Oh my gosh, they are showing each other their butts!" No, they were not showing each other their butts, Kylie was showing Mia her butt. I look out the window and there is Ky bent over with her pants down, patting her bare butt as Mia looks on laughing! What the @#$@?! I quickly tell Ky to get inside and explain to her that we do not do that! After our little discussion, Ky and Mia head back outside and the minute the door closes, we all roar with laughter! Leave it to my kid to be flashin' everybody at age 4!

"C" is for Clown

When I went to pick up Ky at preschool on Monday, here is what I saw! I can't tell you how much joy this cute little girl brings to my life!

Nickname update

Kylie will no longer be playing the role of tinkerbell, a.k.a tink. She now insists on being called "Wonder Woman." This new identity evolved after looking through a children's catalog and seeing a little girt dressed as the ever amazing wonder woman. It's been an obsession ever since. For example...
One day we are browsing through Hallmark, doing a little card shopping. Out of the five trillion cards, Kylie manages to find the only wonder woman card I think ever made. Unfortunately, for all within hearing distance, it was one of those talking cards and we had to hear it repeatedly, and I do mean repeatedly, until I finally gave in and bought the frickin' card so we could go home.
Another fine day, we are at the store, waiting to check out, and there is this little boy who won't quit antagonizing her. I don't say anything because I secretly think to myself, it's payback for all the times she has teased Sadie. Finally, after having enough, Kylie says to the little boy, "Guess what, you are not even bothering me because I am wonder woman and I don't get scared!" So take that! Oh, and f.y.i, Sadie is still known as pudgey mudgey, or at least until she can voice her own opinion.

Is it time for school yet?

Kylie has finally started back to preschool! Yahoo!!! I don't really say this for me. (o.k, maybe I am a tad excited for my 4 fabulous hours of freedom per week) No, I say this because not only were we counting down the days on a sticker chart, but the day preschool was to start, Kylie came bouncing out of her room at 6:45 a.m, completely dressed in her new school clothes with her backpack on, saying, "Is it time for school yet?" Perhaps, if at the time, my mind wasn't still in a deep sleep induced stupor, I would have quickly grabbed the camera for a photo op of her pure excitement and anticiapation. Seriously, you would have thought it was Christmas morning! Instead, being that it was the butt crack of dawn, I was simply thinking what in the @#!% is wrong with this child? However, later on, right before we left for school, I did take a few cute snapshots. Now, if you will, allow me to brag for just a few about how stinkin' cute and thoughtful our lil' preschooler is. Rewind to the night before all this took place. Kylie took it upon herself and decided she needed to go to preschool bearing gifts for her teacher, Ms. Karla. She carefully hand picked two little decorations from her book shelf in her room. She told me they were for Ms. Karla because she missed her sooooo much! I finally talked her into going to the store and picking out something small to take to Ms. Karla instead. So, the following day, right before pre-school, we went to the store and picked out a bright pink rose just for Ms. Karla. Isn't that just the sweetest?!
